HAL, or the “Hybrid Assistive Limb”, is basically the first step to having a real life Robocop. It’s literally a powered exoskeleton with the principle purpose to augment the physical capabilities of its user. Let that sink in for a little bit. A freakin’ power-suit. Obviously, it’s being produced by the Japanese, becuase something this mecha could literally only come from there. Last year, the suit received an EC certificate, permitting its use for medical purposes in Europe as the first medical treatment robot.
No word yet super soldier version yet. But, since its being manufactured by a company called Cyberdyne, which sounds straight out of a cyberpunk novel, it’s only a matter of time before we get some kind of radical dystopian war machine from this.
